Mark Finlay Expands His Golf Club Design Internationally
January 16, 2008 - Southport, Conn. architect, Mark P. Finlay has recently been commissioned to design the master plan and architecture for Guacamaya Club, a new private club on the Northern Pacific coast of Costa Rica.
Finlay will design the clubhouse and all golf related buildings for the 2,200 acre site in conjunction with the Rees Jones designed course. The project also includes design for a 20,000 square foot beach club and a residential development of over 100 homes which will be built on the coastal hills overlooking the course and the ocean.
Although Finlay has designed nearly twenty clubhouses across the United States, this is the first time the architect has gone international. "The challenges you face when desiging internationally are much different than here in the U.S." says the architect. "We're designing this golf club in the middle of a rainforest. It is extremely important that we are ecologically sensitive to the natual terrain in our design.
