'Dig a Pony' Bar to Open in Portland, OR

July 28, 2011 - It is what any classic hangout should feel like: warm, inviting, and entertaining, as if it has existed for years. That is exactly what the designers at Mark P. Finlay Architects were trying to achieve when assisting the owners, Page Finlay (daughter of Mark Finlay), Jacob Carey, and Aaron Hall, in an overall design of their new bar, “Dig a Pony.”

Opening Thursday, July 28th in Portland, Oregon, Dig a Pony radiates an atmosphere that throws you back to the good-ol-days.  It is replacing the Portland landmark, Niki’s Restaurant, located on the corner of Morrison and Grand.  The space was renovated to expose the original beams and tile floor, which originate from 1917 when the building was built. A custom-designed horseshoe bar, vintage church pews, 123-year-old piano and custom stained glass work are amongst some of the décor that completes the bars’s aesthetics.

The 2800-square-foot space will host DJs playing records every night, serve classic American small-plate cuisine and provide a cozy atmosphere with views of the city.
