'Dig a Pony' Named 2011 Best New Bar

December, 29 2011 - Dig a Pony, a new bar opened in Portland, Oregon this past July, was named the2011 Best New Bar by the Portland Mercury publication. The bar was designed by owners Page Finlay (daughter of Mark Finlay), Jacob Carey, and Aaron Hall with assistance from Mark P. Finlay Architects.

The new bar is replacing the Portland landmark, Niki’s Restaurant, located on the corner of Morrison and Grand.  The space was renovated to expose the original beams and tile floor, which originate from 1917 when the building was built. A custom-designed horseshoe bar, vintage church pews, 123-year-old piano and custom stained glass work are amongst some of the décor that completes the bars’ aesthetics.

“Cool is fickle. Beauty is fleeting. And Dig a Pony has no shortage of either,” raves the review. “The care and craftsmanship that went into one of the most gorgeously designed interiors in recent memory extends to the cocktail list and the menu.”  The 2800-square-foot space hosts DJs playing records almost every night, serves classic American small-plate cuisine and provide a cozy atmosphere with views of the city.
