Connecticut Main Street Center Honors 1020 Post Road

Patterson Club - Fairfield, CT

May 13, 2009 - Mark P. Finlay Architects, AIA, in conjunction with Baywater Properties, Frank Mercede & Sons and the Town of Darien, won this year’s Connecticut Main Street Center Awards of Excellence “Property Owner of the Year” for 1020 Post Road, a new commercial building in the heart of downtown Darien.

The project, a mixed-use, trans-oriented development, completed in the spring of 2008, houses several businesses including the new fine dining restaurant - 1020 Post, Ole Mole, Gofer Ice Cream, Lucy Activewear and William and Warren Spa. The second floor is dedicated to office space currently occupied by Merrill Lynch and Cheswick Wright. The third floor houses a row of six apartments including affordable units with priority given to employees of the Town of Darien. The development has significantly contributed to downtown parking and has altered the streetscape transforming downtown Darien into a more pedestrian-friendly environment.

“The Awards of Excellence annually recognizes outstanding projects, individuals and partnerships in community efforts to bring Connecticut main streets back to life. Submissions were judged on innovation, representation, replication and outcome by a panel of professionals with a broad and expert knowledge pertaining to investment, complexity and value of community development to main street revitalization. The awards celebrate the most successful and innovative efforts in Connecticut main street revitalization.”

An awards gala celebrating the winners will be held on Monday, June 8th at Eno Memorial Hall in Simsbury.
